Set up Slack alerts

Connect the Slack integration to receive survey responses as notifications in a Slack channel.

Retently allows you to receive real-time Slack alerts whenever a new survey response is submitted. This helps your team stay on top of customer feedback without leaving Slack.


Connect Slack to Retently

To get started, you’ll need to connect your Slack workspace:

  1. Go to Integrations in your Retently account

  2. Find Slack and click Connect

  3. Authorize access to your Slack workspace

  4. Once connected, your Slack channels will become available for selection


Configure Slack alerts

Slack alerts are configured at the survey campaign level.

  1. Open the survey campaign you want to configure

  2. Go to the Alerts section

  3. Choose Slack as the alert channel

  4. Select the Slack channel where alerts should be sent


Send a test alert

After selecting a Slack channel, you can send a test alert to preview how messages will appear:

  • Click the Test button

  • A sample alert will be sent to the selected Slack channel

This helps you verify that everything is connected correctly and that alerts look as expected.


Choose alert format

You can control how much information is included in each Slack alert by selecting a display format:

Detailed (default)

  • Includes all available contact fields:

    • Name, email, phone number, job title, company, location

    • Any custom attributes

  • Displays the full survey response

This is the most comprehensive format.


Compact

  • Includes:

    • Name and email

    • Attributes block

  • Excludes:

    • Phone number, job title, company, and location

  • Displays the survey response

A balanced view with less noise.


Minimal

  • Includes:

    • Name and email only

  • Excludes:

    • All additional properties and attributes

  • Displays the survey response

Best for quick, distraction-free alerts.


Notes

  • You can select only one Slack channel for a single alert

  • Alerts are sent as messages from the user who connected the Slack integration

  • Make sure the selected Slack channel allows messages from the integration

IMPORTANT: If survey feedback is no longer delivered to your Slack channel, please reconnect the integration, or follow this step-by-step guide to reconnect the integration and resume notifications.


Manage your Feedback directly from Slack

Once you receive your first alert in Slack, it will look something like this:

On the top of the alert, you will see the name of the campaign from which it came. Next, the color on the left side (green in this particular case) indicates if the respondent is a Promoter, a Passive (orange), or a Detractor (red). The alert as well contains the name (if present) of the respondent, along with their email. Next, there is the score and the Feedback itself.

In the bottom row of the notification, you have the ability to "Open in Retently", which means that by clicking on this link, you will be redirected to the specific Feedback shown in the notification.

Next, you have two actions, "Star" and "Resolve" by clicking either of those, you are marking the respective Feedback in Retently. On top of that, directly from your Slack channel, you can assign this feedback to any of your team members withing Retently.
