The Response main comment merge field, {{ response_main_open_ended }}, shows the answer a respondent gave to your main open-ended question. Use it to show customers their own words back to them.
The most common use is collecting public reviews: thank your promoters, show them what they wrote, let them copy it in one click, and link them to your review page.
Where you can use it
Email and link surveys: the Thank You page, and any question shown after the main open-ended question
Autoreplies: the email body, subject line, and sender name
Note: The field is not available in in-app (web) surveys or the feedback button.
You also can't add it to the main rating question, the email body (main rating question) of an email survey, or the main open-ended question itself, because the comment doesn't exist yet at those points.
Show the comment on the Thank You page
Open your campaign's template editor and go to the Thank You page.
If you use separate messages for promoters, passives, and detractors, select the Promoters version.
Click where you want the comment to appear and add
{{ response_main_open_ended }}. You can also pick Response main comment from the merge field list.Save the template.
Example Thank You message:
Thanks! Would you share your experience on Google? Here is what you told us: "{{ response_main_open_ended }}"
Add a copy icon
A small copy icon next to the comment lets respondents copy it in one click and paste it on a review site.
On the Thank You page, open Layout settings.
Tick Copy comment icon.
Save the template.
The icon appears right after the comment. When the respondent clicks it, the comment is copied and the icon turns into a green check mark for two seconds.
If the respondent left no comment, the icon is not shown.
Good to know
The comment is shown exactly as the respondent typed it, line breaks included.
It works in anonymous link surveys too (for example, QR code and kiosk surveys). It is the only merge field you can use in anonymous surveys.
