🗒️ Contents:
You can view all your Feedback Button templates on the Templates page, or by accessing a Feedback Button campaign's editor mode, where you will see the compatible templates listed in the "Template" section of the campaign.
Each campaign can have only one template assigned. The template controls both the appearance of the floating tab on your site and the survey that opens when a visitor clicks it.
Create a Feedback Button survey template
The first time you create a Feedback Button campaign, a default template will be created automatically, allowing you to assign it to the campaign.
However, if you need to create a new template, then click the "+ Create new template" button from the campaign's "Template" section and you will be redirected to the template's edit mode for further customization.
Clone a Feedback Button survey template
A newly created template includes only the default styles and settings. If you'd rather clone an older template so that you can preserve the template's styling in general and only adjust a few minor things, then you can access the [•••] menu from the template's widget, and choose the "Clone" option.
The cloned survey template will have the same styling and settings as the old template and will have an extra "(copy)" appended to its name.
Customize a Feedback Button survey template
To customize a template, hover your mouse over the template widget and the "Edit template" button will appear. Alternatively, you can access the [•••] menu in the template's widget and choose the "Edit" option.
In the template's editor mode, you will see three sections: Button settings, Survey questions, and the Unsubscribe page.
The "Survey questions" and "Unsubscribe" sections work exactly like their in-app survey counterparts. The Feedback Button-specific part is the "Button settings" section, which takes the place of the in-app editor's Pop-up settings.
Button settings
The "Button settings" section controls how the floating tab looks and behaves on your site. The canvas shows a live preview of the tab: click the tab in the preview to see the survey pop-up it opens, and click it again to close it.
📝 NOTE: The pop-up always opens next to the tab, on its inner side. You do not configure the pop-up position separately: a tab on the right edge opens the survey to its left, a tab on the bottom edge opens the survey above it, and so on.
The settings are split into two groups: Essentials and Advanced.
Essentials
Button text: The label displayed on the tab (up to 40 characters). The default is "Feedback". If you leave it empty, the tab falls back to the default label; to show no label at all, use the "Display mode" option instead.
Button position: Where the tab is pinned on the page, with 12 placement options: Top, Middle, or Bottom on the left and right edges (displayed as a vertical tab), and Left, Center, or Right on the top and bottom edges (displayed as a horizontal tab). The default is "Middle, Right".
Button style and color: The icon displayed on the tab and the tab's background color. There are 8 icon styles: Megaphone, Megaphone 2, Heart, Thumbs up, Message, Smiley, Alert, and Star.
Text and icon color: The color of the label and icon.
Size: How big the floating tab is: Small, Medium, or Large.
Advanced
Alt text: Shown on hover and read out by screen readers. Defaults to the button text when left empty.
Display mode: Show the icon and label ("Icon + text"), the icon only, or the label only.
Corner style: How rounded the tab corners are: Rounded, Sharp, or Pill.
Distance from corner: Pixels to shift the tab along its edge, away from its default position. Useful when a chat launcher already sits there. The editor preview shows the default position; the offset applies on your live site.
Hide on mobile: Do not show the floating tab on phones and small screens.
Attention effect: An optional animation that draws the eye to the tab. Options: None, Pulse, Delayed (the tab slides in after a delay you set in seconds), and On scroll (the effect plays once the visitor scrolls past a share of the page you set as a percentage).
Survey questions
The survey that opens when a visitor clicks the button is the same survey experience as the in-app pop-up, and the questions are customized the same way:
Main rating question: The rating scale matches the metric selected when creating the template (NPS, CSAT, CES, 5-Star, etc.). Once a respondent clicks a rating button, the answer is recorded immediately, even if they do not answer the follow-up questions.
Main open-ended question: Has three versions (positive, neutral, negative), displayed based on the respondent's rating. It can be removed via the "Manage questions" option.
Additional questions: Multiple choice, open-ended, and Form questions can be added via the "Manage questions" option.
Thank you message: Displayed after submission, with three rating-based versions, or replaced by a redirect to a webpage of your choice.
Unsubscribe page: The message and confirmation shown to respondents who unsubscribe from your surveys.
📚 The full walkthrough of these options is covered in the in-app template management article; everything applies to Feedback Button templates as well.
The Form question
Since the Feedback Button collects feedback from anonymous visitors by default, the survey can include a Form question that collects contact details or custom properties. Each field is saved onto the customer record.
A Form question can include up to 8 fields. For each field you set a label and pick where the answer is saved ("Save to"): a standard contact field (Email address, Phone number, First name, Last name, Company name, Job title, City, Country, State), one of your custom properties, or Customer tags. The input type is derived from the target automatically: an email field renders an email input, a yes/no property renders a single select, a collection property renders a multi select, and everything else renders a text input.
The form's fields are the same for all respondents; only the question text and the button label can differ per rating segment.
By default, the Form question is shown after the Main rating question. You can also move it above the rating (using the "Move question up" option), so every respondent fills it in before they leave a score.
📌 IMPORTANT: A form shown before the rating must include a field that saves to "Email address".
When an anonymous visitor submits an email through the form, their response and contact record are linked to that email. More details in the script installation article.
Survey preview
The Preview option allows you to see exactly how your Feedback Button survey will look and behave without installing it in your web app.
Keep in mind that previewing and submitting a survey will consume one survey credit, and the response will be saved in your account and included in your survey score.
Assign a template to a Feedback Button campaign
In order to show a specific survey template to your visitors, you will need to assign it to a survey campaign.
To do so, go to the Campaigns page and click on a Feedback Button campaign to access the editor mode. There, in the "Template" section, you will see a list of compatible templates.
📝 NOTE: In order for a template to be compatible with a campaign, the template must match the campaign's metric and channel.
From the list of compatible templates, you can choose and assign only one of them to the campaign. To assign a template you can either hover your mouse over the template widget and click the "Assign to campaign" button, or you can access the [•••] menu and choose the "Assign" option.
When the campaign is saved, visitors who click the button will answer the assigned template.
