A Multiple options question can now show its answers as a searchable dropdown built from one of your contact properties. You pick the property, and Retently fills the list with the values your contacts already have for it. Nothing to type in, and no limit on the number of values.
Typical uses: branch or store location, account manager, support agent, plan, region, product line.
The dropdown type is available in email and link survey templates.
Fixed list vs. dropdown
When you add a Multiple options question, you choose one of two types:
Fixed list: you type them in (up to 10). Best for short, stable lists.
Dropdown from a contact property: the values of a text contact property. Best for long lists, or lists that already live in your contact data.
Add the question
Open a campaign and click Edit on the survey template.
Click the + icon to add a question and select Multiple options.
Choose Dropdown from a contact property.
Pick the text property you want to use (for example, Branch location). Each property shows how many values it has.
Add the question and place it where you want it in the survey flow.
Click Save.
In the editor you can:
Edit the question text.
Edit the placeholder shown in the closed dropdown (default: "Select an option").
See a preview of the open list, exactly as respondents will see it.
Click Configure to change the property or manage its values (see below).
Question settings
These are in the question's layout settings:
Allow multiple options is on by default. Untick it if respondents should pick only one value.
Other comment field adds an "Other" entry at the end of the list with a text box, so a respondent can enter a value that is not in the list. Switch it off to remove it.
Allow new values lets a respondent who finds no match type their own value and select it directly, without the "Other" entry.
Manage the values in the list
The list shows the values your contacts currently have for that property. If a value exists on at least one contact, it is in the list. If you add a new value to a contact, it appears in the list too.
You can adjust the list without touching your contacts. Click Configure on the question, or go to Settings → Contact attributes → Contact properties and click Values next to the property. Both open the same panel, where you can:
Add a value that no contact has yet, so it is available in the survey right away.
Hide a value so respondents cannot pick it. Hidden values stay on your contacts and still work in filters; they are only removed from the survey dropdown.
Refresh values to rebuild the list from your current contacts and drop values no contact has anymore.
NOTE: Changes to values apply immediately, not when you save the template. Hidden values can be unhidden from the same panel.
What respondents see
After the rating question, the respondent gets the dropdown. They can open it, type to search, and select one value (or several, if multiple selection is on). If "Other" is enabled, they can pick it and type their own answer.
Back in Retently, the selected value shows on the response like any other Multiple options answer, so you can see which location, agent, or plan each piece of feedback relates to.
