Contacts attributes filters

On multiple pages in Retently, you can find an "Attributes" filter menu. This option allows you to filter contacts based on their properties.

The "Attributes" filter can be found on the following pages and features:

  • Dashboard

  • Campaign report

  • Trend builder

  • Feedback

  • Analytics

  • Contacts

  • Outbox

  • Campaign builder (the Audience section)

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that the Attributes filter on the Contacts page and within the campaign builder (the Audience section), will filter the contacts based on the properties that they have right now. On all the other pages, the Attributes filter will pull the data based on the properties contacts had when they answered the survey, which is known as historical properties.

The "Attributes" menu allows you to build one or more filter rules. When building a rule you have to select a property, choose a condition, and configure a value.

Here are a few examples so that you have a clearer picture:

In the Property menu, contacts' properties are separated into categories:

  • Tags: this category includes the tags options (Learn the difference between contact tags and properties). The "Feedback tag" option is not present in the Attributes filter on the Contacts page and in the campaign's Audience section.

    • Contact tag

    • Feedback tag

  • Properties: this category will display all the properties that you have created manually, or imported automatically via integrations. Learn how to create properties.

  • Organization

    • Company name

    • Job title

  • Location

    • City

    • Country

    • Country code

    • State

  • Contact: this category includes filter options related to the contact's engagement with surveys. This option is only displayed on the Contacts page/

    • Status

There are six property types in Retently, and each one of them has its particular set of conditions:

  • Text

    • is - looks for an exact match of a text.

    • is not - looks for an exact match of a text.

    • contains - looks for a partial match within a text.

    • does not contain - looks for a partial match within a text.

    • exists - will show contacts that have this text property assigned.

    • does not exist - will show contacts that don't have this test property assigned.

  • Number

    • equals - looks for an exact match of the number.

    • does not equal - looks for an exact match of the number.

    • is greater than or equal to - looks for numbers equal to or greater than the provided value.

    • is less than or equal to - looks for numbers equal to or lower than the provided value.

    • exists - will show contacts that have this number property assigned.

    • does not exist - will show contacts that don't have this number property assigned.

  • Date

    • is - looks for an exact date match (accepted format is MM/DD/YYYY).

    • is not - looks for an exact date match (accepted format is MM/DD/YYYY).

    • is on or after - looks for dates that are on or after the provided date in the value field (accepted format is MM/DD/YYYY).

    • is before or on - looks for dates that are before or on the provided date in the value field (accepted format is MM/DD/YYYY).

    • is more than - looks for dates that happened before the provided value, which means farther in the past (accepted value is a number, example: 30).

    • is less than - looks for dates that happened after the provided value, which means closer to the present time (accepted value is a number, example: 30).

    • exists - will show contacts that have this date property assigned.

    • does not exist - will show contacts that don't have this date property assigned.

  • Boolean

    • is - looks for a match with the selected value, such as "True" or "False".

    • is not - looks for a match with the selected value, such as "True" or "False".

    • exists - will show contacts that have this boolean property assigned.

    • does not exist - will show contacts that don't have this boolean property assigned.

  • Tags

    • is - looks for an exact match with the selected tag.

    • is not - looks for an exact match with the selected tag.

    • has tags - will show contacts that have at least one tag assigned.

    • without tags - will show contacts that don't have any tag assigned.

  • Collection

    • is - looks for an exact match with the provided value.

    • is not - looks for an exact match with the provided value.

    • exists - will show contacts that have this collection property assigned.

    • does not exist - will show contacts that don't have this collection property assigned.
